Help Alex Get a New Hard Drive!

Hey folks. My name’s Alex, and while I’m not that well-known in any fandom, I am a writer, Karkat cosplayer, and I’m pretty fond of my laptop. I bought it four years ago with my own money ($500 for a Dell Vostro 1000 when I was not-quite-seventeen), and it was a good laptop. It had a small hard drive, sure (64 GB doesn’t hold a whole lot compared to most people’s more impressively sized hard drives), ran Vista (which I never had a problem with), and overheated on a frequent basis without the cooling table I bought for it last summer, but it was my baby. I had all my work on its hard drive: the websites/pages I build for fun and commission, my (shitty) art, my writing and writing projects (including quite a few portions of an in-progress longterm Homestuck fic), my music, the art I’ve saved over four years… 

And as of last Saturday, the hard drive is dead. My laptop won’t boot up past the Vista loading screen, due to an error in the hard drive where the OS system files are stored, and Dell Tech Support declared it dead and said that I might as well replace the hard drive (or get a new laptop) and try to salvage my files from the hard drive.

The problem is, I don’t have the money for a new hard drive or laptop. I’ve been unemployed since September, and haven’t had a whole lot of luck in getting a job thus far. I live with my mom and stepdad, so I’m not starving, and my mom lets me use her laptop, but it’s pretty upsetting to be without my laptop and four years worth of files. A refurbished 120 GB hard drive is about $45; a refurbished 80 GB hard drive is $40. A new laptop is anywhere from $200 to $400, so I’m not holding my breath for that right now, but I would really love a new hard drive to tide me over while I try to get a job and earn enough to replace my laptop before it burns through a second hard drive.

I don’t have much in the way of art to offer, but I do love writing, and I thought that fics could be a nice incentive for people to donate!

so my house got robbed last week and we lost about 10k~15k worth of items and in that includes a box of spare keys. in it included keys to all three of our vehicles. one car’s engine isn’t working, one car is with my brother and the third, our truck, is with my parents and i. we were warned there is a possibility the robbers will come back so we were just starting the process of trying to get our truck rekeyed.

well, last night, our truck was stolen.

i love my parents and it hurts me to see that they’ve lost so much. i’m 17, and jobs are scarce in my town unless i work out a special school schedule and i really can’t do that. but i want to help instead of sitting by idly and watching my parents stress over it like i have for the past week. i never really liked the idea of commissions because i feel that my drawings arent worthy of money but i’m desperate right now. i will work really hard on every drawing to make sure that it is worth your money i’m so sorry

i don’t want to just ask for donations, so i think the best thing to do will be commissions and i have set up a button on my blogs.

• Ok, so due to a complicated financial issue (explained later in the post) I need to earn some money so I can give it to my mother and relieve our problems. If you can’t commission me, please consider reblogging so other people can see this.

• I’ll be doing Sketch commissions, traditional & digital, both medias cost the same. You can choose between any character of your desire, in any pose, Homestuck included (but only under these conditions, please read the third question and the answer given).

• The commissions are Waist Up and cost 3 Euros each, 4 Euros if there is more than 1 character with a max of four characters per drawing. Here are some sample of my art. I understand you might find this expensive since my art is not at all that good, but I’m in a really tough situation and I need your help.

• Payment will be done trough paypal, contact me at maayes@hotmail.com and tell me which character you’d like me to draw, if possible include reference images and details about how you’d like the artwork to be. I’ll e-mail you a wip, if it corresponds to what you asked for and you’re happy with how it’s going, I’ll continue working on it and the payment would be done during that time. The commissioned work will be sent to you by e-mail in the largest size available, as well as a clean version with 1000x????.

THE REASON BEHIND THESE COMMISSIONS:

• For a few years now I’ve been trying to fulfil some of my dreams, this one was as simple as ordering something online. Me and my mother created a paypal account and everything seemed to be fine, until a friend told her that she could do a transaction from an atm to our paypal account and use that method to order what I wanted. I gave her my savings and she did it.

• Later we found that you should never use an atm to transact money into your paypal account, that money will never reach its destination due to the lack of a paypal ID when you do the actual transaction. Also, that money can’t be returned. This is where we are done for, 80 euros is a lot of money for us, enough to feed us for a long time, and because of a person who, without knowing, informed her with false information we are in this kind of situation.

• Paypal started it, but it’s also the only way I can solve it.

• We’ve tried e-mails, calling our bank and whatnot, but so far there seems to be no solution, that money is lost. My mother gave me back my savings and refuses to accept them, the only thing I can do now is this, start commissions, and use paypal to transfer the money I earn into her bank account, that way she must take it.

• It was a mistake, we are human, we make mistakes, and I could just start commissions without telling you this…but somehow that didn’t seem honest. I’m desperate, I have no idea how we’ll manage without that money.

• Please help us if you can, and try to understand that I know this was our mistake…but this is the only way I can solve it.

She won’t accept my money, and I have no idea how we’re going to solve this.

This is my friend Candace.  

She’s seventeen years old.

She has struggled with anorexia, anxiety, depression, ocd, and self harm since age eight, although she was not formally diagnosed until age twelve.

She has been undergoing outpatient treatment for five years, however, recently it has become apparent that it’s not going to be enough, and she began the search for a residential center.

The cheapest one she can find is $45,000.  Her insurance refuses to pay.  They see anorexia as a choice.  Her family cannot afford it.

She wants to spread awareness about eating disorders, so that maybe someone, someday, can get the help that they need, even though she cannot.

Candace is one of the most intelligent, beautiful, amazing people I have ever met, and I hope that by sharing her story here, her goal of raising awareness can be met, and maybe others will be inspired, and lives can be saved.

If you have any information on paying for residential anorexia treatment, or how to fight with insurance companies so that they’ll pay out of network expenses, please let me know so I can tell her.
